Young writer Richard Collier is met on the opening night of his first play by an old lady who begs him to "Come back to me". Mystified, he tries to find out about her, and learns that she is a famous stage actress from the early twentieth century. Becoming more and more obsessed with her, by self-hypnosis he manages to travel back in time—where he meets her.

What kind of time-travel story is this?
Time travel drives much of the story.
Meets the archive’s time-travel criteria. The mechanism is classified as Enchanted.
Why the archive makes this assessment (spoilers)
Richard's effort to reach Elise's era and the fragility of remaining there define the romance.
Richard reaches 1912 through self-hypnosis and self-suggestion, without a constructed time machine; Enchanted covers this supernatural mental technique.
Titan combines the archive’s quality, audience and legacy base with the significance of time travel. It is an index, not a score out of 100, and is distinct from the FMV archive’s scoring model.
Partial inputs flag incomplete source metadata. Provisional weighting flags a time-travel assessment that remains uncertain; it receives no additional confidence penalty.
